The Filter is sufficient for most people in the USA. The Filter strips water of nasty chemicals, flavors and odors and filters 99.99% of the bacteria (i.e. E. coli) and 99.94% of protozoan cysts (i.e. Giardia, Cryptosporidium). The Filter requires about 15 seconds to filter 16oz (473ml) of water.

The Purifier is ideal for international travel and outdoor adventures and removes everything the Filter does plus it removes 99.999% of bacteria, protozoan cysts and viruses (i.e. Hepatitis A, SARS, Rotavirus). The Purifier requires 30 seconds to purify 16oz (473ml) of water.
