In literature, I have noted a three-grade & a five-grade classification schemes, but the three-grade is most widely used. Originally, the term “shungite” indicated only those specimens that were 98 percent pure carbon, but now it is now used more broadly to indicate any rock that contains some shungite. What follows is the classification scheme used by Regina Martino in her book "Shungite: Protection, Healing and Detoxification." Type I Shungite (aka Elite or Noble Shungite): Purest form of shungite with carbon content at least 98 percent; shiny silvery semimetallic luster; does not lend itself to cutting and shaping; accounts for only one percent of all available shungite Type II (aka Black Shungite): 50-70 percent carbon; because it's easily shaped and polished, this is the type typically used for sculptures and jewelry; black in color with semi-dull luster (unless polished) Type III (aka Gray Shungite or Shungite Rock): 30-50 percent carbon; gray in color with dull or matte luster Detoxification • Purification • EMF Protection Said to be around 2 billion years old, Shungite is a very powerful, ancient healing stone that detoxifies your body by absorbing and eliminating any negative or health hazardous energies. How To Use Your Elite Shungite Stone: There are many different ways to use your Elite Shungite stone. You can carry them with you in your purse, place them under your pillow or on your night stand. If you are specifically looking for relief from insomnia, place your Shungite near your bed. If you are looking for EMF protection, place your stones next to your electronics—no further than 50cm or so from your computer, television, microwave etc. If you are looking to gain the antioxidant and health benefits of Shungite, it is said that you can infuse your drinking water with your stone. Place it in the bottom of a glass container and fill it with water. Let the stones activate the water for a couple minutes before you drink it. Just know that because of the carbon makeup of the stone, there will be some carbon residue in your water. Shungite FAQ; Why is my Shungite rusty? Does that mean it is Fake?  Shungite is a mineraloid, meaning it resembles a mineral but lacks a crystal structure or definite chemical composition. Shungite always has carbon, but other elements or minerals can be present. Elite Shungite  (Type 1) is a glassy mineral, black with silver semi-metallic luster. It normally contains 98% organic carbon. This is the rarest form of Shungite and only about 1% of all Shungite found is actually of this Type. Elite Shungite is fairly easy to recognise due to its conchoidal fractures. The ocher-colored inclusions are Jarosite, a basic iron sulfate formed by the oxidation of pyrite and other iron bearing substances. It is a normal chemical process we often refer to as "Rust". These "Rust" inclusions are quite a common occurrence in Elite Shungite and no reason for alarm, your Shungite is not rusting, rather it is the material, usually Pyrite, that has formed on or around the Shungite that has oxidised and it in no way effects the properties of your Shungite, but if it bothers you it can be removed using a pin and/or toothbrush. (please see pictures for examples of Shungite with Jarosite inclusions) How can I tell if my Shungite is real? So, shungite does something that most other crystals or stones don’t do: it conducts electricity. It’s not the ONLY mineral that can do that though — Other Electrical Conducting Minerals are; silver, galena, graphite, copper, gold, pyrite, silicon, cinnabar and sphalerite But shungite can do something special… it has an ability to conduct that electricity really well (as does silver, gold + copper of course). Authentic elite shungite has practically zero resistance to electric current and therefore it conducts current almost like a metal. Therefore, elite shungite has the most important diagnostic feature – it is electrical conductivity. If you measure the resistance of it on a multimeter, then the resistance will show on the display as zero. Please Note; I have tested samples from this batch of Shungite I am selling here and it DOES conduct electricity and shows ZERO RESISTANCE on the multimeter (please see video) Other easy things to check include; using a magnet -Shungite is not magnetic, weight - Shungite is light weight, Galena (lead) and Hematite can both appear similar to Shungite the difference being in comparison they are both heavy (especially the Galena) and finally Elite Shungite can operate a touch screen device, simply touch it to the screen instead of your finger to try, Shungite actually conducts our sensory energy aswell!
